Radarsat-2 satellite
The canadian Radarsat-2 C-band radar satellite was launched on December 14, 2007 by a Russian Soyuz-FG rocket from the Baikonur cosmodrome. Radarsat-2 represents a new generation of commercial radar satellites and was created as a result of an agreement between the government — the Canadian Space Agency, the manufacturer — MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA), which is the operator of the satellite and ground segment.
The Radarsat-2 spacecraft has significant technical advantages over the Radarsat-1 spacecraft, including three-meter resolution, flexibility in the choice of polarization, the ability to take left and right side shots, and more accurate measurement of the satellite's position in orbit.
